Ledger on a Roll

Heath Ledger's new Australian film Candy will premiere at the Berlin Film Festival next week. Ledger stars as Dan, a young Sydneysider who along with his girlfriend named Candy (played by Australian actress Abbie Cornish, pictured left), becomes addicted to heroin. According to advance screenings of the movie, Ledger (riveting) and Cornish (stunning) "generate genuine heat in their romantic clinches and real sadness as their world unravels." The film is an adaption of Luke Davis's novel Candy. The reviewer remarks that this is no ordinary junkie movie as director Neil Armfield manages to depict the seduction and sheer terror of heroin addiction. His cast also includes Geoffrey Rush as a middle-class user.
