Serena Williams was defeated tonight at the Open in straight set by Slovak Daniela Hantuchova who needed five match points to put away the defending champion in a match that lasted 91 minutes. Serena lost the first set 6-1, but fought for the second set which ended 7-6 (7/5). Hantuchova jumped for joy when she had finished off the American.
