West with the Night by Beryl Markham is the autobiography of the Kenyan aviatrix who was the first person to fly solo across the Atlantic east to west. In her book she chronicles events in her life which shaped her and gave her the courage to pursue life with zeal. Markham writes so well and tells such an interesting story that at the time of publication some controversy arose about the true author of the book. However, Hemingway who had met Markham and heard some of the stories in her life believed in her authorship saying of the book, "... I wish you would get it and read it because it is really a bloody wonderful book." Markham was a contemporary of Karen Blixen's in Kenya. Blixen wrote her memoirs of Africa in Out of Africa.
